CD Projekt Red has increased the price of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt just one month before the game's highly anticipated remaster launches on current-generation platforms. The acclaimed open-world RPG has remained a popular choice for players more than a decade after its original release, but newcomers will now have to pay $49.99 instead of the previous $39.99 price.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt originally launched in 2015 and quickly became one of the most celebrated RPGs of its generation, earning numerous Game of the Year awards. CD Projekt Red later expanded the adventure with Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, two major expansions that added dozens of hours of additional content to Geralt's journey.

Despite its age, The Witcher 3 remains one of the most popular RPGs available, making the timing of the price increase particularly notable. The new $49.99 price is now listed across all platforms, although CD Projekt Red has not publicly explained the reason behind the $10 increase.

The remaster is scheduled to launch on September 29 as a free update for everyone who already owns the game. Fortunately for players who purchase the game now, The Witcher 3 includes both Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine at no additional cost. That makes the current $49.99 price considerably more appealing than the game's original launch cost. When the base game debuted in 2015, it carried a $59.99 MSRP, while the expansion pass containing both major expansions cost an additional $25.The price increase also arrives during a particularly busy period for CD Projekt Red.

The studio continues working on The Witcher 4, which is currently expected to launch in 2028, while also preparing another expansion for The Witcher 3. The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past is expected to serve as Geralt of Rivia's final adventure and will reportedly introduce new characters and romance options.

Players who want to experience The Witcher 3 before the remaster arrives can still find the game for less than its new standard price. The Complete Edition is currently available for $24.99 on GOG, giving prospective players a considerably cheaper way to pick up the full experience ahead of the remaster's September launch.

With the remaster arriving on September 29 and The Witcher 4 still several years away, CD Projekt Red appears to be keeping the franchise firmly in the spotlight. For anyone who has somehow missed Geralt's most famous adventure, however, the sudden price increase makes the decision of when to buy The Witcher 3 a little more complicated.
