Although the remake launched to strong reviews in 2024, the PlayStation 5 Pro version suffered from a shimmering effect on certain surfaces when running in Quality Mode. Following the recent patch, Performance Mode is now experiencing a distinct visual error.

The Silent Hill franchise has returned to prominence following years without new releases. However, PlayStation 5 players are currently facing performance bugs in the latest Silent Hill 2 update.Players noticed the visual issue immediately after downloading the patch designed to fix surface shimmering. The new bug creates an effect known as crushed blacks, which makes dark areas lose detail entirely. Konami acknowledged the existence of the issue and confirmed that developer Bloober Team is working on a solution.

Trees throughout the town appear as solid black shapes without visible branches or leaves, while dark corners of indoor areas turn into complete black voids. Although the game relies on dark environments for atmosphere, the missing visual details impact the overall presentation.The bug appears limited to the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro versions of the game, leaving personal computer players unaffected. PlayStation 5 users waiting for an official fix can switch to Quality Mode to remove the crushed blacks, though doing so limits game performance to thirty frames per second.

The franchise maintains a busy release schedule for the remainder of 2026 despite the technical issue. Silent Hill: Townfall is scheduled to launch on September 23, setting its story in 1990s Scotland as developer Bloober Team works to resolve the graphical errors on PlayStation 5 consoles.
