Minecraft getting a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 version!
Minecraft is getting a dedicated Switch 2 version with better visuals, improved performance, and an upgraded Super Mario Mash-Up Pack.

Minecraft is finally getting a dedicated Nintendo Switch 2 version, with Mojang promising improved visuals and performance when the new edition launches on October 27.

The current version of Minecraft available on Nintendo Switch 2 is essentially the original Switch version running through backwards compatibility, and it has suffered from several technical problems.

Players have reported performance issues, freezing, Microsoft account sign-in problems, and poor draw distances. Chunks can also appear suddenly as players move through the world, making the Switch version feel noticeably behind other console and PC editions.

The dedicated Switch 2 version aims to address that gap by taking advantage of Nintendo's newer hardware.

According to Mojang, the Switch 2 version will feature Vibrant Visuals as the default graphical experience, alongside enhanced lighting, improved shadows, and other visual upgrades.

Players will also be able to access Vibrant Visuals-enabled content through the Minecraft Marketplace.

Nintendo fans are getting an additional bonus as well. The Super Mario Mash-Up Pack is being updated with the new visual technology, allowing locations such as Peach's Castle and Delfino Plaza to receive a significant graphical overhaul.

The Mario-themed content will remain exclusive to Nintendo versions of Minecraft.

Mojang hasn't provided specific details about frame rates, loading times, or whether the stuttering and freezing issues found in the original Switch version will completely disappear. However, the fact that the Switch 2 version can run Vibrant Visuals suggests that players should see a substantial improvement over the previous edition.

There will also be an upgrade path for existing Nintendo Switch owners moving to Switch 2, although Mojang has yet to reveal how much the upgrade will cost.

The company has promised to share more information at a later date. Nintendo's Switch 2 upgrade prices have varied depending on the game and the amount of new content included, so the final cost for Minecraft remains unknown.

The dedicated version arrives during an increasingly busy period for Minecraft. Mojang is also preparing a new update featuring an autumn-themed biome, while Minecraft Dungeons 2 and a sequel to the 2025 Minecraft movie are also in development.

For Switch 2 owners who have been disappointed by the performance of the existing Minecraft version, October 27 could finally provide the upgrade they've been waiting for.
