Grand Theft Auto 6 may finally have a November 19 release date, but a former Rockstar Games developer believes another delay remains possible.

Fans have been waiting years for Grand Theft Auto 6, with the highly anticipated sequel now approaching the end of one of the longest development cycles in the franchise's history. Rockstar has already delayed the game multiple times, making the upcoming November 19 launch date particularly important for players who have been eagerly awaiting their return to Vice City.

Pre-orders for GTA 6 opened more than a month ago, seemingly suggesting that development is progressing toward the finish line. However, comments from former Rockstar developer Mike York have given fans another reason to wonder whether the game will actually arrive on schedule.

Speaking with Indy100 through Covers, York explained that another delay would not surprise him based on his experience working at Rockstar. According to the former developer, the studio has historically been willing to push back a release if a game does not meet its exceptionally high standards.

York emphasized that even relatively minor problems could potentially result in a delay. A bug affecting a particular mission or another issue that Rockstar considers unacceptable could be enough for the company to postpone the game rather than release it before it is ready.

While York does not have any inside information suggesting that GTA 6 is currently facing another delay, he believes it remains a possibility. In a particularly concerning scenario for fans, he suggested that a delay could potentially push the game as far back as May 2027.

For now, there is no official indication that Rockstar or Take-Two Interactive is considering another delay. GTA 6 is still officially scheduled to launch on November 19, and the opening of pre-orders would appear to indicate that the development process is moving forward as planned.

There is also a significant financial incentive for Rockstar to maintain the current release date. GTA 6 reportedly generated $1 billion in pre-orders within its first hour, demonstrating the enormous commercial demand surrounding the game.

However, Rockstar's reputation could be an even more important consideration than the financial pressure to launch on time. The studio has become known for releasing highly polished open-world experiences, with games such as Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 setting extremely high expectations.

York's comments also highlight how Rockstar's approach to development has been influenced by the history of the franchise. Earlier GTA games were released during an era when developers couldn't rely on massive post-launch patches to fix problems. As a result, games needed to be heavily tested and polished before reaching players.

Even today, Rockstar's releases generally arrive in considerably better shape than many other large open-world games. With GTA 6 expected to be one of the biggest entertainment launches in history, the pressure on Rockstar to deliver a polished experience will be enormous.

Another mystery surrounding the game is the absence of a third trailer. Many fans expected Rockstar to release additional footage before pre-orders opened, but that never happened. At this point, however, the company arguably doesn't need to do much more to convince people to buy the game.

Nevertheless, a new trailer or extended gameplay presentation could reassure fans who remain concerned about the game's development. Recent reports have suggested that GTA 6 could receive a major showcase in August, although Rockstar has yet to confirm those reports.

For now, fans will have to wait and see whether Rockstar sticks to November 19. Another delay is certainly possible, but until the developer says otherwise, GTA 6 remains firmly on track for its scheduled release.
