A premature PlayStation Store listing has leaked a major shadow drop for Ghost Recon Wildlands, revealing a next-generation update and a new free DLC mission set to launch on August 6. The content drop coincides with the Ghost Recon 25th Anniversary stream, inadvertently spoiling what was likely intended to be a major surprise announcement for the long-running franchise.

The free next-generation upgrade will introduce 4K graphics, 60 frames-per-second support, faster load times, quality-of-life improvements, and new cosmetics. PlayStation 5 players will also receive exclusive hardware features, including 3D Audio, adaptive trigger support, and haptic feedback. Launching alongside the technical improvements is a free DLC mission that brings a darker tone to the game's Bolivian setting, tasking players with hunting a vengeful mythical spirit known as La Llorona.

August 6 also marks the release of the Ghost Recon Wildlands Definitive Edition. The new bundle compiles the base game, the original Season Pass, the Year 2 pass, the Quick Start pack, and Deluxe Packs. The Definitive Edition will also grant players access to the Cold Eye and Nightfall Protocol outfit bundles.

To celebrate the new content and the franchise's 25th anniversary, Ubisoft is hosting a free-to-play period from August 6 to August 10, with all progression carrying over for players who decide to purchase the full game. For those uninterested in the expansive DLC bundle, the standard version of Ghost Recon Wildlands is currently discounted to $5 on the PlayStation Store until August 13. With the newer Ghost Recon Breakpoint failing to resonate with the community, the developer appears to be leaning on the sustained popularity of Wildlands to keep fans engaged while they await news on the future of the series.
