Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has reportedly gotten an early look at The Elder Scrolls 6, revealing that she watched a live playthrough of Bethesda's long-awaited RPG on the morning of August 11.

The next entry in the Elder Scrolls series was first revealed back in 2018, but Bethesda Game Studios has remained relatively quiet about the project ever since. The game still has no confirmed subtitle or release date, although development has been progressing behind the scenes.

According to Sharma, she attended a live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls 6 and came away impressed by what she saw. She described the game's scale and grandeur as "incredible," while suggesting that its story could ultimately be even more impressive than the enormous world surrounding it.

Sharma's comments also sparked speculation about the game's potential subtitle. In her posts, she used eight asterisks when referring to the game's name, leading some fans to wonder whether the number of asterisks could correspond to the number of letters in the subtitle.

It is also possible that they were simply being used as placeholders, so there is no confirmation that Bethesda has settled on a title.It is also unclear exactly what Sharma meant by a "live playthrough." She may have watched someone from Bethesda play the game directly, or she could have been shown a recorded gameplay presentation.

Either way, the fact that Xbox's CEO has now seen the game suggests that The Elder Scrolls 6 has reached a stage where Bethesda can showcase working builds internally.

Bethesda has previously provided a few clues about the technology behind the project. Bethesda director and producer Todd Howard revealed in late July that both The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 will use Creation Engine 3 rather than the Creation Engine 2 technology used for Starfield.

According to Howard, the newer engine allows Bethesda to create stable builds that can be tested internally throughout development. While The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered was developed by Bethesda and Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, Howard explained that sticking with Bethesda's own technology for The Elder Scrolls 6 gives the studio greater control over the development process.

Despite these updates, fans should not expect The Elder Scrolls 6 to arrive anytime soon. The game remains years away from release, and Bethesda has yet to provide a proper gameplay reveal or even confirm where the next chapter of the series will take place.

There is also still a question surrounding the game's platform availability. Following Sharma's appointment as Xbox CEO, Microsoft has shown renewed interest in keeping certain games exclusive to Xbox consoles. While some upcoming Xbox titles are still being released across multiple platforms, others are being positioned as console exclusives.Bethesda has not confirmed whether The Elder Scrolls 6 will eventually come to platforms outside Microsoft's ecosystem.

The decision could be particularly significant given the franchise's history. The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim launched across multiple platforms in 2011 and has since become one of the most widely available RPGs ever released.For now, fans will have to settle for small glimpses like Sharma's latest comments. Still, the idea that The Elder Scrolls 6 is far enough along to be played and shown internally offers one of the clearest signs yet that Bethesda's next massive RPG is steadily taking shape.
