This new co-op game looks like a Class Zelda adventure!
Isles of Reveries blends classic Zelda-inspired dungeons and puzzles with town building and local co-op for a nostalgic multiplayer adventure.

Fans waiting for the next major Legend of Zelda game may have a new indie adventure to check out, as Isles of Reveries brings classic Zelda-inspired exploration to Nintendo Switch and other platforms while adding local co-op.

The Legend of Zelda franchise has experimented with multiplayer several times over the years, but most mainline entries have remained firmly focused on single-player adventures. Games such as The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, Four Swords Adventures, and Tri Force Heroes have offered cooperative gameplay, while the Hyrule Warriors spin-offs have also embraced multiplayer.

Now, indie developer desertcucco is taking inspiration from that side of Zelda with Isles of Reveries, an upcoming adventure scheduled to launch on September 4 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Steam, and Xbox.

Isles of Reveries immediately stands out thanks to its visual style, which bears a strong resemblance to classic 2D Zelda games, particularly The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening. The game combines dungeon exploration and puzzle-solving with a number of additional mechanics that give it an identity of its own.

Players take control of Lief, an owl accompanied by a magical fairy companion. The adventure revolves around exploring dungeons, solving puzzles, and progressing through a world that appears heavily inspired by the classic Zelda formula.

However, dungeon crawling isn't the only thing players will be doing. Isles of Reveries also features town-building mechanics, giving players another activity to work toward between adventures.

The biggest selling point for Zelda fans, though, could be the game's local co-op mode. Two players can work together to tackle multiplayer-focused dungeons, allowing friends to experience the game's puzzles and exploration together.

That combination could make Isles of Reveries particularly appealing to players who enjoy the traditional Zelda formula but have always wanted to experience more of it cooperatively. Players can approach the game as a classic single-player adventure or bring a friend along for its multiplayer content.

The footage shown so far suggests that Isles of Reveries is shaping up nicely, and its Zelda-inspired presentation could make it an appealing alternative while Nintendo keeps details surrounding its next major Zelda project under wraps.

Nintendo has yet to announce a release date for the rumored Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2. The company has only shown a brief cinematic featuring Link sleeping in his house, leaving the scope and gameplay of the project largely unknown.

With 2026 marking the 30th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, many fans are expecting Nintendo to reveal more information soon. A Nintendo Direct rumored for September could potentially provide a major update, and there is even speculation that Nintendo could use the anniversary to announce other Zelda projects.

For now, fans will have to wait for Nintendo's plans to become clearer. In the meantime, Isles of Reveries could offer Zelda fans something they've rarely received from the franchise itself: a classic-style adventure designed to be enjoyed with a friend.
