The new Diablo four update fixes the biggest frustration with mythic crafting!
Blizzard Entertainment is removing random outcomes from Diablo four Mythic item crafting, allowing players to directly upgrade their favorite gear while retaining stats.
Blizzard Entertainment is preparing another round of changes to Diablo four Mythic items following ongoing feedback from players. The current Season fourteen system will receive an overhaul, introducing a predictable method for upgrading existing Unique items into Mythic quality during the next test realm update.

Season of Death Awakening launched on June thirtieth with a new approach that turned Mythic into an item quality rather than a completely separate rarity tier. Under the current Horadric Cube system, converting an eligible Unique item transforms it into a random Mythic item for the same equipment slot, which wipes away all existing stats and modifications. While developers previously reduced the pool of random outcomes, significant luck was still required to get desirable results.

In an official update preview, Blizzard announced a new Horadric Cube recipe titled Upgrade Direct Item to Mythic. This new recipe converts an item directly without changing it into a different item. Developers confirmed that random factors are removed, meaning the final Mythic item will keep its original identity, bonus stats, Tempering, and Masterworking progress.

Upgrading items through this direct method will cost more resources than standard crafting at the Blacksmith or Jeweler. Items upgraded this way will gain a Crafted tag, and characters can only equip one item with this tag at a time. The recipe also cannot be used on items that are marked as unmodifiable, meaning items that have already been transfigured will not qualify. This change addresses player complaints about losing good base items during crafting or spending rare materials on unwanted random drops.

Crafting through the Jeweler will remain a secondary option for players seeking random outcomes. Players can select an equipment slot and receive a random class item in exchange for specialized runes and materials. Items made at the Jeweler will not carry the single item limit tag. Blizzard is also adding basic Unique versions for all Iconic Mythic items, allowing players to access core build abilities much earlier in their character progression before finding endgame versions.Randomness will still exist in other areas of the game. While world drops, Jeweler crafting, and Blacksmith caches will continue to offer random rewards, new Mythic Unique Charms will be even rarer, featuring no direct crafting recipes or target farming sources.
