The final bell rings for WWE 2K Battlegrounds!
Publisher 2K will permanently turn off online servers for WWE 2K Battlegrounds on August 20, leaving current owners with offline game modes only.
Another wrestling video game from publisher 2K is preparing to close its online servers permanently. The game, WWE 2K Battlegrounds, will lose all online services on August 20.

This move follows a familiar pattern for the franchise. The publisher regularly turns off servers for older entries. In fact, WWE 2K24 lost online support earlier this year on March 31, and WWE 2K25 is already scheduled to go offline on March 31 of next year.

WWE 2K Battlegrounds first arrived in 2020 as a temporary replacement after the main series took a break following the troubled release of WWE 2K20. Developed by Saber Interactive, Battlegrounds stepped away from realistic wrestling simulation in favor of fast action and arcade style gameplay. While players enjoyed the stylized art and multiplayer features, the title received mixed reviews overall due to limited content and a reliance on in-game purchases. Digital stores have already removed the game from sale, meaning new players cannot buy it.

After August 20, players who already own the game can still play offline game modes. The full single player campaign and offline exhibition matches will remain accessible. However, any feature requiring an internet connection or online servers will stop working entirely.

The original shutdown date was set for July 9, but the publisher chose to extend online play until August 20. With no further delays expected, players have only a short time remaining to experience the online features before they disappear forever.
