Biggest Problem Fixed: Pokemon Pokopia Free Update Is Finally There!

Pokemon Pokopia's upcoming Bubbly Basin DLC may be receiving most of the attention, but the accompanying free update could end up being the more important addition for many players. While the paid expansion introduces new areas, Pokemon, and gameplay mechanics, the free update addresses one of the game's biggest frustrations by improving how players manage their items.

To clarify, Bubbly Basin is a paid DLC expansion launching at 9 PM PT on August 4 and 12 AM ET on August 5. It introduces a variety of new features, including the Dive exploration mechanic, underwater building, a new underwater town biome, and additional Pokemon. Separately, a free content update will also release at the same time for all Pokemon Pokopia players, adding improvements that are available regardless of whether they purchase the DLC.

Pokopia Free Update Adds a Major Quality-of-Life Feature

The biggest addition in the free update is a new storage system designed to solve one of Pokopia's most inconvenient problems. As a life simulation game centered around crafting and exploration, Pokopia requires players to collect and manage a huge number of materials across different areas of the world.

Previously, this could lead to a frustrating situation where important crafting items were stored in different chests across multiple biomes. Players often had to search through several locations just to find the materials needed for a project, turning simple crafting tasks into lengthy scavenger hunts.

According to Famitsu, the free update introduces a new "sharing device" storage option that allows players to access shared items across multiple locations. These storage devices can be placed throughout Pokopia, giving players much easier access to their materials no matter where they are building or exploring.

Famitsu's testing suggests that each device can store up to 20 items, and players may be able to place multiple devices across the world. The publication reported being able to deploy 20 storage devices, creating access to up to 140 additional storage slots. While further testing may reveal more details, the feature appears to significantly improve item management.

The devices can also be crafted through Pokopia's existing recipe system, allowing players to create additional storage options as needed. They can even be placed on Cloud Islands, although those versions only provide access to items stored within that specific island.

With this new system, one of Pokopia's most time-consuming frustrations should become far less noticeable, allowing players to focus more on building, exploring, and creating.

Bubbly Basin Marks Pokopia's First Major Expansion

Bubbly Basin and the accompanying free update represent Pokopia's first major post-launch content release beyond regular updates and events. The expansion adds a significant amount of new content, while the free update shows that the developers are also focused on improving the core experience for all players.
