Fans of Bloodborne are still waiting for Sony and FromSoftware to do something with the beloved action RPG, and it seems they are not the only ones wondering what is taking so long. Shuhei Yoshida, the former president of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, has openly admitted that he would love to see the game return.

As reported by GamesRadar, Yoshida talked about Bloodborne during a keynote speech at Japan's CEDEC industry event. The presentation looked back at some of the most memorable games and moments from his nearly 40-year career at Sony. Among the games he discussed were Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, both of which played an important part in the rise of FromSoftware's now-famous style of action games.

Yoshida also spoke about Sony's history with Bloodborne, a game that has built a huge following since it was released for PlayStation 4 in 2015. The game's only major expansion, The Old Hunters, arrived later that same year. Since then, however, fans have received very little from Sony when it comes to the game.

During his speech, Yoshida pointed out that Bloodborne still does not have a dedicated PS5 version or an official PC release. He also questioned why Sony has not given the game the same treatment as many of its other older titles.

Sony has released a number of remasters and upgraded versions of its first-party games over the years, making the continued absence of Bloodborne even more noticeable. Yoshida admitted that he is regularly asked about the possibility of a remaster or rerelease, but said he does not know why nothing has happened.

He also suggested that the future could go in several directions. Sony could eventually release the game, create a special edition or simply decide not to do anything with it. Whatever happens, Yoshida made it clear that he would personally like to see the game return.

His comments are especially interesting because of his former position at Sony. It may seem strange for a former executive to question why the company has not done more with one of its most popular games, but Yoshida's career helps explain the situation.

He moved into the role of head of PlayStation Indies in 2019, several years after Bloodborne was released. He also retired from Sony in 2025, meaning he was no longer directly involved with the company's decisions by the time the current generation had fully taken shape.

For many fans, the biggest request is actually fairly simple. They do not necessarily want a complete remake or a huge overhaul. Many would simply like to play the original game at higher resolutions and smoother frame rates, particularly on modern hardware.
Despite the game's popularity, Sony has never released an official 60fps or 4K update for the PS4 Pro, PS5 or PS5 Pro. That has become one of the most frustrating parts of the situation for fans who want to revisit the game without being limited by its original technical settings.

In the meantime, unofficial emulation has made some impressive progress. Modern PC hardware can now run Bloodborne through PS4 emulation in a much better state than many people might have expected. It still requires a fairly powerful computer, and devices such as the Steam Deck are not ideal for the task, but the results have given fans another way to experience the game.

For now, though, there is still no official announcement from Sony. Yoshida's comments may not mean that a remaster or PC version is coming, but they show that even someone who spent decades inside Sony's PlayStation organization is still asking the same question as the fans: why hasn't Bloodborne come back yet?
