Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen players will soon have a new opportunity to obtain Celebi for free, with Pokémon Home support officially coming to the Switch and Switch 2 ports in October 2026.The ports launched on Pokémon Day 2026 and quickly became some of the best-selling games on the Nintendo eShop.

However, players have been waiting for Pokémon Home compatibility, particularly because completing the Pokédex within the games themselves is impossible without access to other Gen 3 titles.

That wait is finally coming to an end. Once Pokémon Home support launches, players will be able to register Pokémon caught in the FireRed and LeafGreen ports in their Pokémon Home Pokédex. Completing the required Pokédex will then reward players with Celebi at no additional cost.

There is an important limitation to the upcoming Pokémon Home integration, however. Pokémon can be transferred out of FireRed and LeafGreen, but players will not be able to transfer Pokémon into the games.

As a result, Pokémon Home will not allow players to bring missing Pokémon into FireRed or LeafGreen to complete their National Pokédex. Celebi also cannot be obtained directly within either game, making its inclusion as a free Pokémon Home reward particularly notable.

The Pokémon Company's announcement does not explicitly clarify whether players need to complete the National Pokédex or simply the original Kanto Pokédex to receive Celebi. If the latter is the requirement, players will have a much easier task ahead of them.

Mew is not required to complete the original Kanto Pokédex, as players only need to register the first 150 Pokémon. This means obtaining the elusive Mythical Pokémon will not be necessary to claim the reward.

The October release of Pokémon Home support has also fueled speculation that Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald could be coming to the Switch and Switch 2 around the same time.

The Gen 3 games would be particularly useful for FireRed and LeafGreen players attempting to complete their National Pokédex, as several Pokémon cannot be obtained in either Kanto remake alone. Rumors have previously suggested that the three games could arrive on Nintendo's current consoles in October 2026, although nothing has been officially confirmed regarding those ports.

If they do arrive alongside Pokémon Home support, the timing would make considerable sense. Players could potentially use the Gen 3 games to obtain Pokémon missing from FireRed and LeafGreen, while Pokémon Home would provide a way to manage their collections across the different titles.

Despite Pokémon Home support finally arriving, players should not expect Celebi to become obtainable directly within FireRed and LeafGreen. Instead, the Mythical Pokémon will be distributed through Pokémon Home as a reward for completing the required Pokédex.

Players who qualify will therefore need access to the Pokémon Home mobile app to claim their free Celebi. For now, FireRed and LeafGreen players can still obtain Ho-Oh, Lugia, and Deoxys through the games' post-game content, while Celebi remains one of the notable exceptions.

With Pokémon Home support arriving in October, FireRed and LeafGreen players will finally have another reason to revisit the classic Kanto adventures. If the rumored Gen 3 ports arrive alongside it, completing the games' Pokédexes could become significantly easier.
