The Elder Scrolls: Poison Song has officially been revealed, giving fans a new look at the upcoming fan-made expansion for The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind. A first gameplay teaser has also been released, showcasing some of the new content coming to the massive project later this year.

While fans continue waiting for The Elder Scrolls 6, Bethesda's iconic RPG franchise has remained active through continued support for existing games. The Elder Scrolls Online recently introduced its first four-person mount ahead of the arrival of mounted combat, while The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered also recently made its way onto Nintendo Switch 2.

Those releases have helped keep the franchise in the spotlight, but they have done little to satisfy fans waiting for a completely new mainline entry. The Elder Scrolls 6 is still believed to be years away, with some speculation pointing toward a potential 2028 release. In the meantime, however, Morrowind players are getting something much more substantial to explore.

Poison Song is a major new expansion created by Tamriel Rebuilt, a volunteer fan development group that has spent years expanding Morrowind beyond its original Vvardenfell setting. The project has already added large portions of mainland Morrowind, including new cities, characters, quests, items, and locations that integrate with the established Elder Scrolls lore.

The Poison Song expansion continues that work by expanding the Old Ebonheart region and surrounding areas. Players can expect new cities, dungeons, chapels, factions, and a large number of quests. The expansion also adds the Temple Ordinators and allows players to join House Indoril during the first part of the story.

One of the biggest additions is the city of Othrenis, alongside new areas surrounding Almalexia. Players who have already explored Old Ebonheart will also have a reason to return, as Poison Song completes several of the city's previously unfinished guild questlines.

The expansion is heavily centered around House Indoril and its place within Dark Elf society. The Nerevarine prophecy also plays a role in the story, giving the expansion another connection to the events and lore of Morrowind.

While players are not simply replaying the original game's main storyline, the legacy of the Nerevarine remains an important point of interest for several House Indoril characters.

Tamriel Rebuilt's long-running work has also reached an impressive scale. With the addition of Poison Song, the project now features more than 1,000 quests across its expanded version of Morrowind, making it one of the most ambitious fan projects in The Elder Scrolls community.

Meanwhile, Bethesda's mainline series remains a topic of speculation. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma recently teased The Elder Scrolls 6 by describing its name as great and showing eight asterisks. The comments led some fans to speculate that the game's final title could be The Elder Scrolls: Sentinel rather than the previously rumored Hammerfell, although Bethesda has yet to confirm either possibility.

Official support for older Elder Scrolls games is also continuing. Skyrim recently received another update, while ZeniMax has reaffirmed its plans to continue expanding The Elder Scrolls Online despite recent layoffs.

For fans waiting on The Elder Scrolls 6, Poison Song may not be the new mainline game they have been hoping for, but it offers another substantial reason to return to Morrowind. With new locations, factions, hundreds of quests, and a deeper exploration of House Indoril, Tamriel Rebuilt continues to make the classic RPG feel like a much larger Elder Scrolls adventure.
