Xbox is finally working on a long-requested feature for its Achievement system that will give players an additional reward for completing every Achievement in a game.
The feature was confirmed by new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, although she stopped short of revealing exactly when it will launch. Sharma said the Xbox team is working on the feature for later in 2026, meaning players shouldn't have to wait much longer to find out how Microsoft's version of the long-requested reward will work.
The announcement came alongside a new Xbox console update that introduces several other changes. Players can now allow voice chat to be included in game captures, access Achievements through new methods, gain additional control over cloud saves, and keep more games on their wish lists.
While those additions are useful, the Achievement reward is arguably the most exciting change for completionists.
Unlike PlayStation, Xbox currently doesn't provide a special reward for earning every Achievement in a game. Players receive Gamerscore for individual Achievements, but completing an entire game's Achievement list doesn't provide anything beyond the satisfaction of finishing it and the bragging rights that come with a completed profile.
PlayStation's Platinum Trophies have long filled that role. Once players collect every other Trophy associated with a game, they receive a Platinum Trophy that acts as a clear reward for completing everything.
Xbox doesn't appear to be planning to copy the system exactly, but Sharma's comments suggest that a similar reward is finally coming.
When an Xbox user asked Sharma about a "Platinum trophy equivalent with Achievements," she replied that the team was working on something for later this year.
The exact format remains a mystery. It almost certainly won't literally be called a Platinum Trophy, but Xbox could introduce a new type of Achievement, badge, Gamerscore bonus, or another profile-based reward for players who complete an entire game.
Another unanswered question is how downloadable content will factor into the system. It remains unclear whether players will need to earn every DLC Achievement before receiving the new completion reward, or whether the reward will only require the base game's Achievement list.
Either way, the confirmation represents a significant win for Xbox players who have been requesting a completion reward for years.
The announcement also fits into Sharma's broader focus on responding to player feedback through Xbox Player Voice. Since taking over as CEO, Sharma has highlighted several player-requested improvements while Microsoft continues to restructure its gaming business.
The Achievement update arrives during a particularly turbulent period for Xbox, following major layoffs and broader changes to Microsoft's gaming strategy. As a result, some players may view these quality-of-life announcements as a distraction from the company's more controversial decisions.
Still, for Achievement hunters, the new feature is something worth looking forward to.
Microsoft has confirmed that the reward will arrive sometime in 2026, so players should learn more about the system within the next few months. The timing could also make it an interesting addition to Microsoft's next-generation Xbox strategy, particularly with the rumored Xbox Helix hardware expected to arrive in 2027.
For now, Xbox completionists finally have something new to chase beyond Gamerscore.
