Fans of survival horror have another game to worry about losing. Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul, a horror title that has often been compared to P.T., is set to disappear from digital storefronts in August 2026. The game has earned very positive reviews, making its upcoming removal especially disappointing for fans of the genre.

The delisting is happening because the game's licensing agreement with Paramount has ended. Developer VRWERX confirmed that The Lost Soul will be removed from several digital platforms, including Steam, Meta Quest, Viveport and the PlayStation Store.

There is some good news for players who already own the game. Anyone who purchases The Lost Soul before it is removed will still be able to play it afterward. However, once the game disappears from digital stores, new players will no longer have an official way to purchase and download it.

VRWERX explained that the license agreement with Paramount has officially come to an end, meaning the developer can no longer continue selling the game through digital storefronts.

The situation is particularly unfortunate because The Lost Soul has remained a popular choice among horror fans since its original release in 2017. It was created as an original story set within the Paranormal Activity universe and was initially designed specifically for virtual reality.

The game originally launched for PlayStation VR and later became available on platforms such as Meta Quest. Eventually, controller support was added, allowing players to experience it as a more traditional first-person horror game rather than needing a VR headset.

Its gameplay is fairly simple but relies heavily on atmosphere. Players explore a haunted house while carrying a battery-powered flashlight, searching for clues and trying to understand the strange events happening around them.

That focus on exploration, limited resources and a constantly threatening environment has led to comparisons with P.T., the famous playable teaser from Hideo Kojima and Konami. Like P.T., The Lost Soul builds much of its horror around making players feel trapped and unsure about what might happen next.

The game's removal is part of a wider problem affecting licensed video games. When the rights to a movie, television show or other property expire, developers and publishers may no longer have permission to continue selling the game. This has caused a growing number of older titles to disappear from digital storefronts.

More than 50 games have reportedly ended support or been removed in 2026 so far, and the trend does not appear to be slowing down. The situation has also sparked discussions about whether players should have stronger protections when they purchase digital games that could eventually become unavailable.

In the case of Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul, at least the game managed to remain available for around nine years before its license expired. That is longer than some other licensed games have survived.

Another example is Star Trek: Legends, which is also scheduled to shut down its servers in August despite only arriving on PC and consoles in 2024. Unlike The Lost Soul, however, the server shutdown means players may lose access to the game entirely.

VRWERX is not planning to leave the horror genre behind, though. The studio reassured fans that the delisting is not the end of its work and said it is currently developing new games, including several horror projects based on original franchises.

For now, anyone who has been interested in Paranormal Activity: The Lost Soul has a limited window to pick it up. Once the license-related delisting takes place, the game will remain playable for existing owners, but new players will no longer be able to officially purchase it.
