A new roguelike called Sephiria has officially launched its full 1.0 version on Steam, and it is already getting a strong response from players. The four-player co-op game currently has around 91% positive reviews, making it an interesting option for fans looking for something different in the crowded roguelike genre.

What makes Sephiria stand out is the way it combines two very different styles. Its colorful pixel-art visuals may remind players of cozy games such as Stardew Valley, while its fast and demanding combat has drawn comparisons to popular bullet-hell roguelikes like Enter the Gungeon. The result is a game that looks relaxing at first but can become surprisingly intense once the action begins.

The game was developed by Team Horay, the studio behind Dungreed, a 2D action roguelike that originally launched in 2018. Dungreed has built a strong reputation on Steam and currently holds a Very Positive rating, with more than 90% of its reviews recommending the game.
Sephiria is considered a spiritual successor to Dungreed, although it changes several major parts of the formula. It uses a top-down view, introduces a completely different cast of characters and puts a much stronger focus on cooperative play.

Combat is one of the game's biggest strengths. Fans of Enter the Gungeon may find the fast pace familiar, as players need to pay close attention to enemy attacks, movement and positioning. However, Sephiria moves away from the gun-focused combat seen in Enter the Gungeon and places much more emphasis on melee weapons.

That means players need to get closer to enemies while carefully timing their attacks and movements. Fights can quickly become chaotic, particularly when playing with other people, but learning enemy patterns and finding the right equipment can make difficult encounters much more manageable.

The game's presentation is another reason it has attracted attention. Its pixel-art visuals have led some players to compare it to Stardew Valley. There is also a gameplay connection between the two games through their mining areas.

In Sephiria, players travel downward through a large mine designed almost like a tower. Each floor has its own layout and challenges, giving players another reason to keep exploring as they progress.

The game offers several features designed to give players plenty of options. It supports online co-op for up to four players and includes boss fights, collectibles, different weapons and a variety of ways to create character builds.

One of the most important systems is inventory management. Players can organize their equipment and combine different trinkets and tablets to improve their abilities. Choosing which items to keep and how they work together can have a major effect on a character's overall build.

This system also gives Sephiria some of its replay value. Different combinations can lead to different combat styles, allowing players to experiment with builds instead of following one fixed approach. Some of these ideas were influenced by Team Horay's previous work on Dungreed, but the inventory-focused design gives Sephiria its own identity.

The full 1.0 release arrived on July 31, following an early-access launch in April 2025. The final version adds a sixth chapter, a new ending and additional tablets and trinkets.

The game normally costs $14.99, but players can currently buy it for $8.99 thanks to a 40% launch discount running until August 10. Its early performance has also been impressive, with SteamDB recording more than 24,000 concurrent players shortly after launch.

With strong reviews, co-op support and a unique mix of cozy visuals and intense combat, Sephiria could be worth checking out for roguelike fans. Its performance over the next few weeks will show whether Team Horay can turn that promising launch into a long-term success.
