New World, Same Survival?

The first edition of Subnautica mesmerized players and fans alike with its combination of exploration, survival, and strange oceanscapes and ponds. With the
improved graphics and increased
difficulty in Subnautica 2, you have
a whole new underwater environment
like diverse biomes, deeper and more dangerous sea creatures like the collector Leviathan, which is frequently encountered around important story areas, and It could also grab your vehicle and throw it around,
and more dangerous creatures alike.

There is base building and a great deal of hidden items to find, and meet bizarre sea creatures. While Subnautica 2 does have a few modifications and they are relatively minor as compared to the original edition, the original game’s main mechanics remain steady. Although many of the concepts from the original game are expanded upon, not all of the additions have the same impact, therefore it is up to the players to determine whether the sequel really lives up to expectations.

Building a Future in the Deep

Subnautica 2 is set in a future where Khaara bacterium spreads from its home planet to others, including those humans inhabit. Due to this, Alterra started the Pioneer Program to send people outside Federation control. They put around 50,000 pioneers in cryosleep on the ISV Cicada, aimed at colonizing the desert world Zezura. Yet, disaster hits; the ship crashes on Zezura’s oceanic moon instead. Survivors now face an alien and hazardous new world. And despite the terrible crash, the ship’s AI urges people to continue with their original mission on Zezura. This leads to sickness and even mutations in some survivors.

The game actually adds new elements like multiplayer co-op and modifying DNA while preserving the essential survival-crafting and exploration loop of the first game. You’re dumped into a huge alien ocean and need to gather resources and avoid what’s out to get you like the collector Leviathan, or Shiver Leviathan, or Great Jaw. Managing resources and planning trips to riskier spots stay familiar, it feels fresh because it enables players to construct a wide range of objects including tools, vehicles, and extremely complex bases for safety. Crafting is still incredibly important. While base building was already a core feature of the original game, Subnautica 2 makes it feel more meaningful by tying it more closely to exploration and survival. Establishing a well-placed base is no longer just convenient; it has become essential for managing resources, preparing for challenges, and building weapons.

Players learn the story by coming across weird sea creatures and finding new biomes, understanding the importance of each discovery. The game keeps its beloved formula while adding new features and improving QOL. I believe that while many of the core gameplay elements are the same, the mix of survival, crafting, exploration and story pulls players to keep diving and discovering surprises under the ocean.

CINEMATIC & EXPLOSIVES

The story in Toxic Commando is probably best described as forgettable. The introduction to the characters and story is very awkward
and badly paced. Plot exists purely as just
an excuse, and sometimes best ignored altogether. However, the overall plot of
the world itself, while generic, is still good.
The 4 main characters are beyond bland,
having no actual charisma between them
at all. Which really feels a lot like
a missed opportunity.

As the game has a lot of impressively well shot cutscenes that are graphically very attractive
to look at! The game itself is very polished in the technical sense, with very impressive graphics. Environments are very grungy, enemy designs are very visually interesting, and the music suits the atmosphere well. Enemies almost always explode when you shoot them, and everything feels very
actiony and gory, all while running smoothly,
at least in my experience.

SOMETHING'S MISSING

The main campaign of the game takes about 8 hours. After the main campaign, there are no special gamemodes to unlock or anything like
that. The endgame is basically customization. Playing the missions at greater difficulty rewards you with more kinds and quantities
of in-game currencies used to
unlock customizations.

Some of which are cosmetic, like gun skins
and hats, or weapon mods. And while gun customization is very in-depth the car and character customizations is very basic.
You can also prestige guns to improve their
stats, resetting all the gun’s mod unlocks.
The class skill trees are packed enough to require more than 8 hours to fill.

And while there is a degree of randomization with the objectives and loot spawn on each
level every time it is replayed, you can only
do the same thing so many times before
it becomes repetitive.
