Dungeons and Dragons has a long history of adapting other famous fictional worlds into its tabletop system. Official rulebooks dating back to the nineteen eighties featured material based on Conan, Lankhmar, and the Cthulhu mythos, followed later by a tie in series for Diablo Two.

Building on that history, Wizards of the Coast announced the first official Dungeons and Dragons crossover book under its new Universes Beyond line, focusing on the World of Warcraft universe.The official announcement took place during the Gen Con convention during a presentation hosted by actor Theo Solomon, who played the character Wyll in Baldur's Gate Three.

The upcoming two hundred fifty six page hardcover sourcebook will bring the iconic online world of Azeroth directly to tabletop gaming. The book will feature: 

- Eleven new playable species.
- Nine character subclasses, including six completely new options and three updated builds.
- Over fifty new monsters and more than sixty new spells.
- Twenty three in game factions and seven playable dungeons.- Twenty six magic items and artifacts, alongside stat profiles for famous story characters.

The sourcebook provides everything needed to run tabletop adventures set within the World of Warcraft universe. Preorders opened on July thirty, with digital early access scheduled for November three followed by a full public release on November seventeen.
