CD Projekt Red has announced The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered during Gamescom Opening Night Live, confirming that the beloved open world RPG will receive a major free update on September 29.

The remaster will arrive more than 11 years after The Witcher 3 originally launched in May 2015. The game served as the conclusion to Geralt of Rivia's main story and was later expanded with numerous free updates alongside the paid Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions.

Despite being more than a decade old, The Witcher 3 has remained enormously successful. CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the game has sold more than 65 million copies worldwide across multiple platforms.

The upcoming remastered version will include the complete base game along with both major expansions. A wide range of graphical improvements and gameplay features will also be introduced across supported platforms.

Menu navigation will be improved, while the game's skill tree will receive a complete overhaul. Monster behavior will also be adjusted through balance changes, potentially making encounters with the creatures of the Northern Realms more challenging.

Support for modern upscaling technologies will be included as well, with Nvidia DLSS 4.5 and AMD FSR 4 among the technologies being supported.

The Witcher 3 Remastered will also feature cross platform mod support, allowing players to access compatible modifications across supported platforms. The game will additionally be included in the Xbox Play Anywhere program.

Platform specific improvements are being prepared for PlayStation 5 Pro and Nintendo Switch 2. CD Projekt Red has previously introduced DLSS support to the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077, although it remains unclear whether the same approach will be used for The Witcher 3 Remastered.

The remaster will also expand the game's availability by launching on Nintendo Switch 2 and Blizzard's Battle.net storefront.

CD Projekt Red provided another surprise during the presentation by revealing additional information about The Witcher 3's upcoming expansion, Songs of the Past.

The expansion will introduce a new region called Letten, a land filled with folklore and festivals that hides an ancient darkness beneath its celebrations. Geralt will travel to the region for what has been described as his final hunt before the role of protagonist is eventually passed to Ciri in The Witcher 4.

The announcements did not stop with The Witcher series. CD Projekt Red also confirmed that content inspired by The Witcher 3 will be added to Blizzard's action RPG Diablo 4 through a future update.

Further details about the Diablo 4 crossover are expected during BlizzCon, which is scheduled to take place on September 12 and 13.

With the remaster, a new expansion, and a Diablo 4 crossover all announced, CD Projekt Red is continuing to expand The Witcher 3 more than a decade after its original release.
