Pokémon Winds and Waves have yet to hit store shelves, but the main series already has its sights set on Generation 11. Although Pokémon Winds and Waves are scheduled for a late 2027 release window, newly leaked documents reveal that the next mainline generation has already entered active development. This recent wave of information outlines Game Freak's reported internal roadmap for the franchise running through 2030.


While Pokémon  Winds and Waves remain the immediate priority following their initial reveal in February, fans are already gaining a clearer picture of where the series is heading next. The leaked documentation suggests Game Freak intends to maintain a rapid production cadence. This tight timeline may stir debate within the community, where short turnaround times between major releases have long been a focal point of criticism.


According to internal details shared online by Centro Leaks, development on Generation 11 quietly kicked off in 2024 and remains on track for a 2030 release. Typically, a new Pokémon generation begins production immediately after the current one launches; for instance, Winds and Waves entered development in 2022 following the debut of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. However, due to scheduling shifts for Winds and Waves, early prototyping for Gen 11 began early in 2024, keeping the project aligned with its target date.


The leaked timeline stems from internal Game Freak documents that surfaced during last October's extensive TeraLeak. These files indicate a long-term strategy to release Generation 11 in 2030, with multiple spin-off titles and updates spaced out between it and the launch of Winds and Waves. While a 2030 date arrives relatively soon after 2027, the extended overlapping development windows could give the development team additional runway to polish the final experience.


Beyond Pokemon Winds and Waves and Generation 11, the leaked Game Freak roadmap highlights several other projects currently in the pipeline:

1. Pokémon Winds and Waves DLC: Post-launch expansion content planned for the Generation 10 games.
   
   
2. Project Ringo: An unannounced Pokémon Legends entry reportedly exploring the distant past of the Galar Region.
   
   
3. Project Seed: A large-scale, multi-region project envisioned as an interconnected online world spanning Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, and Kitakami.

Considering the scope of these upcoming titles, Generation 11 starting early makes practical sense. Staggering production allows Game Freak to manage several ambitious projects simultaneously over a multi-year period. By the time the Gen 10 games arrive, Pokemon Winds and Waves will have spent roughly five years in production, leaving fans eager to see how the extended development cycle impacts the quality of the final game.
