Battlefield 6 has entered the next phase of Season 4 with Update 1.4.2.0, introducing its biggest collection of seasonal content yet. The update adds a major Top Gun crossover, brings back the classic Wake Island map, expands Tsuru Reef, introduces two new fighter jets, and launches a free trial across all platforms.

The centerpiece of the update is a collaboration with Top Gun developed alongside Paramount Games Studio. The event features three characters from the 2022 movie, with each character voiced by their original film performer.

A new squad unit called CJTF Helix has also been introduced, inspired by the film's iconic characters. Players can unlock Top Gun themed cosmetics and character skins by completing Event Challenges and earning Ace Medals, a limited time currency created specifically for the event.

To celebrate the crossover, Battlefield 6 will be available as a free trial from August 18 through August 25. During the trial period, players will have access to six modes across four maps, including Tsuru Reef, Wake Island, Cairo Bazaar, and Hagental Base.

Two new fighter jets have also been added to the game. The F/A 81F Super Spectre has been designed for aerial superiority and precision strikes, with pilots and co pilots able to coordinate their attacks. The F 74A Seacat features variable sweep wings that can adjust during flight, giving the aircraft a different balance between speed and maneuverability.

The new aircraft will be heavily featured in Top Gun: Carrier Strike, a reimagined version of the classic Carrier Assault mode. Teams will need to coordinate infantry, naval forces, and aircraft to break through enemy defenses, protect their own carrier, and destroy the opposing carrier.

Battlefield REDSEC has also received a new aircraft focused mode called Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep. Squads will pilot the new jets through intense aerial battles while avoiding anti air defenses and attempting to eliminate opposing teams.

Wake Island has additionally returned to Battlefield 6. The iconic Pacific map will feature combined arms combat across its coastal terrain, including battles around fortified positions and the offshore aircraft carrier.

Tsuru Reef has been expanded as well, with aircraft carriers now appearing as playable environmental elements in Conquest and Escalation. Full carrier based gameplay will remain exclusive to Top Gun: Carrier Strike.

REDSEC's Battle Royale mode has received a new point of interest with the addition of the USS Grant near Fort Lyndon. The crashed carrier will contain higher value loot than standard locations and will be designated as a High Value Zone during its initial period.

Ground combat has also received a new weapon in the form of the Interdictor sniper rifle. It has been described as the longest range sniper rifle in Battlefield 6 and can be used for extreme distance engagements, including targeting pilots inside aircraft. The weapon can be unlocked through the Battle Pass.

Beyond the headline additions, Update 1.4.2.0 introduces numerous gameplay improvements. Aircraft handling has been revised with better landing gear physics and a new Airplane Control Assist option that helps keep aircraft aligned with the center of the player's view while managing pitch, roll, and yaw.

Underwater gameplay has also been improved with new swimming animations, corrected drowning and revive interactions, and smoother transitions between underwater and surface movement.

Several weapon and optic issues have been corrected, including inconsistencies affecting the EF88 and VSSM. Match Grade Ammo damage calculations against swimming players have also been adjusted.

A new ADS Dispersion Crosshair option has been added, allowing players to see weapon bloom while aiming down sights and better understand how sustained fire can affect accuracy.

Portal has received additional functionality as well. Custom Lobbies have been introduced for Battle Royale Quads and Conquest, providing more options for organized and competitive communities. SDK support has also been added for both Tsuru Reef and Wake Island.
