The Pokemon Company stated that August 21 will be a big day for Pokemon Pokopia fans, teasing that a special announcement related to the hit game will take place during the upcoming Pokemon World Championships Preview Show.

Pokemon Pokopia has quickly become one of the highest-rated Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives released so far, giving fans plenty of reason to be interested in what The Pokemon Company has planned.

The announcement comes just days after Pokemon Pokopia celebrated a major sales milestone. More than five months after launch, Nintendo revealed that Pokemon Pokopia had sold over five million units worldwide.

The figure includes both physical and digital sales, although Nintendo did not reveal which format has accounted for the majority of purchases. By comparison, more than 23 million Nintendo Switch 2 consoles had been sold worldwide as of June 30.

Following the launch of Pokemon Pokopia's Bubbly Basin DLC, The Pokemon Company teased that fans would have more news to look forward to in the coming days. The company has now confirmed that the 2026 Pokemon World Championships Preview Show will feature a special Pokemon Pokopia announcement connected to the PokemonXP event at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

The Preview Show will air on Friday, August 21, at 4:00 PM Eastern on the official Pokemon Twitch channel and the Play! Pokemon YouTube channel. However, The Pokemon Company has not revealed what the announcement will involve, leaving fans to speculate until the presentation airs.

It was previously revealed that a panel focused on the development of Pokemon Pokopia will take place during PokemonXP. The one-hour spotlight panel is scheduled for Friday, August 28, at 2:30 PM and will feature senior director Shigeru Ohmori, producer Kanako Murata and chief director Takuto Edagawa.

It remains unclear whether the August 21 announcement will reveal information related to that panel or introduce something entirely new for Pokemon Pokopia.

Pokemon Pokopia's Bubbly Basin DLC is the first of three expansions included in the game's Expansion Pass. While The Pokemon Company has yet to reveal the names of the remaining expansions, the second DLC is expected to focus on new outfits and quality-of-life improvements rather than introducing an entirely new town.

Arriving later in 2026, the expansion will allow players to dress up Pokemon they have befriended, including Pikachu. The third expansion remains largely mysterious, although The Pokemon Company has confirmed that it will arrive sometime in 2027.

In the meantime, Pokemon Pokopia players can take part in a new event featuring Feebas and Milotic. By collecting Prism Scales scattered throughout Dream Islands, players can befriend the two Pokemon while also earning new decorations for their homes. The Feebas event is currently running until Friday, August 28, at 5:00 AM local time, and players do not need access to the Bubbly Basin expansion to participate
