Pearl Abyss is considering expanding Crimson Desert beyond its current single player experience, with the developer discussing the possibility of a multiplayer expansion and a potential sequel.

Crimson Desert launched on March 19 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S after going gold two months before its release. Since launch, Pearl Abyss has continued supporting the open world RPG through free content updates that have addressed bugs while also introducing new ways for players to interact with the world of Pywel.

The studio previously confirmed during Summer Game Fest that Crimson Desert would receive its first DLC expansion, although details about the upcoming content remain limited.

Pearl Abyss has now provided more insight into its long term plans for the game. According to the development team, Crimson Desert could potentially receive a sizable multiplayer expansion in the future. However, the studio acknowledged that adding multiplayer would be technically challenging and would require significant work.

It remains unclear whether multiplayer features will eventually become part of Crimson Desert, or what form they could take if Pearl Abyss decides to move forward with the idea. The studio's continued post launch support suggests that the game could have a long lifespan, but no multiplayer expansion has been officially confirmed.

Players hoping for a mobile version of Crimson Desert may have to wait considerably longer. Pearl Abyss said that it currently has no plans to release a mobile version anytime soon, although the company continues researching ways to optimize its BlackSpace Engine for mobile platforms.

Pearl Abyss also discussed the development of the Nintendo Switch 2 version. The studio confirmed that Crimson Desert is already playable at a foundational level on the hardware, but additional optimization and evaluation are still required before it can meet the company's standards.

Pearl Abyss is currently targeting the first half of 2027 for the potential launch of Crimson Desert on Switch 2. The studio plans to share additional details once development progresses and the remaining technical work has been completed.
