Ahead of the release of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation in Spring 2027, Square Enix is bringing Cloud Strife back to consoles sooner than expected. The publisher has released a new trailer showcasing Cloud's appearance in Final Fantasy Resonance, an upcoming HD-2D RPG set to launch on October 22, 2026.

Final Fantasy Resonance reimagines the story of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius into a standalone, single-player adventure featuring original mechanics, a reimagined overworld, and a unique script. The title is scheduled to launch across PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

The Visions system and classic heroesA core mechanic of Final Fantasy Resonance is the "Visions" system, which allows players to summon legendary heroes from past franchise entries to assist in battle. The game features 26 confirmed Visions, consisting primarily of main series protagonists along with notable characters from Brave Exvius.

Square Enix confirmed that both Cloud Strife and his nemesis, Sephiroth, will appear as summons. Additional confirmed protagonists in the Visions roster include:
