Jo Anne de Rosa is an 85-year-old mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother from California, and her favorite way to have fun
is video gaming.
Playing provides connection. “I’m playing
with real human beings. Without gaming,
I think my mind would have deteriorated
long ago. You can leap buildings, you
can fly, you can dress your characters
in any kind of conceivable way,”
she said. “It is just really fun.”
Jo Anne started playing games when one
of her sons invited her, and from then on,
she was hooked. The kids she met online
had no idea they were playing against
an 85-year-old great-grandmother.
These days, she tends to play by herself
or with her son and 27-year-old grandson,
who helped her upgrade her computer
setup.
“People my age don’t have the luxury
of having grandsons and sons who are
gaming and who will encourage them
to try it too” she said. “I’d like to see
games for seniors that don’t demean
them, that are not watered down
and childlike.”
“Don’t be afraid. You can do it!” she
urged. “You just have to open your
mind and use it in different ways.”
The oldest gaming streamer
Let us introduce you to Yang Binglin,
known as “Gamer Grandpa”. He holds
the Guinness World Record as
the oldest gaming streamer.
He turned 88 in 2025 and lives in China,
and he Used to work in engineering
and scientific research.
After retirement, he found joy playing games and has become a big collector,owning over 500 games. He acquired the latest Xbox
and PlayStation consoles, including a PS5
gifted to him by Sony.
About his record title, Yang said: “I want to continue to contribute more in the role of
a game blogger, guiding young people.
I hope that children all over the world can
truly enjoy and experience the good
things in games.
