IS HOARDING PART OF
THE GAMER’S NATURE?

Have you ever finished a game to find that your inventory is filled with items you never used? Maybe you could be
a gaming hoarder. But do not worry! You are certainly not the only one,
as you will see in this article.

Why do gamers feel the need to keep the things they discover along the way? Some reasons might be to use it later, as a keepsake, or to use for bragging rights. These items bring memories
of fun and adventurous times.

We scavenged the internet for some of the reasons why people are becoming gaming hoarders. Only for purely informational reasons, of course.

What if I need it later?

How much is too much when it comes to saving items you might need later? Just a few is enough, or your style is more like save 50? We say it is better
to be safe than sorry!

Just one more potion!

The reality is that some items are too precious not to keep. Potions, crafting mats, or quest items are just a few that any gamer learns early on that they should be saved at all costs.

Then there are the items that can give
a god-like power, but deciding when to use them ends up giving more anxiety!

The Master Ball in Pokémon is a perfect example of it. You are able to catch any Pokémon on the first try. But to use it, you need the “most” perfect moment. And that makes you save it forever.

To own only 10 slots should be illegal, and having to choose what to keep is so stressful. Yes, the suffering is real.

Humans are wired not to lose things, and in-game, that translates to saving all that you might find to be valuable. Did you know that the Hoarding Syndrome actually exists?

It is used to describe the behaviour of gamer’s when they save special or limited items while gaming.

Most of the time, they are never used.
I told you you were not the only one!
There is a whole syndrome associated with it!

The game's main
character is you?

Some players save items exclusively for bragging rights. If it is special, rare,
or gives an upper hand in battle,
they have it.

Being the best is
the only way to go

We all know gamers who refuse to just enjoy a game. They need to be the best at it.

They want to learn all the knowledge, have the resources, and reach mastery. And they work hard for it.

They are usually the last ones standing because they know what and how to use items to achieve peak results.

Running out of potions is not a choice, and you better believe that they have
the best gear and weapons in-game.

Some might say that this way of playing does not seem fun, but each person has their own style and preferences.

These types of players can be the most needed ones in parties and the most helpful for new players of the game.

When you need help with a mean boss, or how to finish a quest, or even which gear to go for, they are the ones.

The gaming world needs all types of personalities. It would be boring if
we all played the same way.

That’s what makes it fun and exciting. You can be the real you while gaming and making new friends.

Souvenir me!

We are all guilty of saving certain items in games just for the memories that it brings us. That Christmas mount that is slower than a snail, that Halloween suit that has no stats, or the entry key to
a dungeon you already finished.

Feeding the nostalgia

How can you not save them when they are filled with memories of fun, battles, and sometimes a couple frustration tears? It is all part of it.

The human being’s lifetime consists of these moments, so it could not be any other way when it comes to playing games.

We save everything that has meaning attached to it. A concert ticket, an old mug, and an old phone are just some examples.

In-game, this translates to buying more inventory space because what do you mean, I do not have space for this pretty flower?

I found it by the palace while chatting with friends after the last battle for
the kingdom’s liberty. Not ok.

We do not mind spending real money to make sure that our needs are met.
Like buying more inventory space!
It is a very big necessity.

It is what keeps our serotonin levels equilibrated. Games are meant to
add to our lives, so have fun!

To be or not to
be a hoarder

All said and done, only one thing stays. The fun you had while playing a game. No matter if you saved everything.

Or just waited to see what the game gave you. In the end, it is how you
feel while playing that matters.

Playing games allows you to try over and over and find who you are as
a gamer.

We might be hoarders, items stress us out, but we also have fun, and learn, and try again.

All of it is part of becoming a gamer,
do not feel bad if your inventory is spilling out. Take it easy and enjoy!

Where to next…!
